Helmets for Heroes Program – CAL-Var

Jim Davis from Sutter Creek American Legion Post 108 is a member of the executive board and is in charge of the Helmet for Heroes program. He places the donation box helmets at various business locations in the community.

The funds raised go directly to veterans who return home with a service-related disability. Patrons of businesses can drop their spare change directly into the helmet piggy bank and that money raised goes directly to VA&R.

CAL-Var is a program run by the California Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation, which is a charitable corporation under the American Legion of California. Their main goal is to help veterans with legitimate disability claims by providing lifetime solutions like proper treatment and therapy for physical and mental health issues, as well as suicide prevention. They also offer support to ease the transition from military to civilian life, which can be challenging for many.

Although the program can help with emergency situations like rent, car payments, and utilities, their priority is always to support veterans in the long run.

Do you own a local business? If you want to help support your local veterans, you can reach out to your local American Legion and ask about placing a donation helmet in your establishment.

If you would like to make a donation by check, please write “Helmets for Heroes” in the check memo line and mail your donation check to:
